Over the course of this semester, I have witnessed how a personal website is built starting from nothing.
For the final editing of my website, I added a widget of a quote at the end of the page. The quote is from The Moon and Sixpence, which has been one of my favorite books of all time, by W. Somerset Maugham. This quote teaches me “the wisdom of life”, which is to be humble. I know that some people may disagree with what this quote talks about and they might think people should be high-profile and live a splendid life. But I like this quote because it is the start point and ruler of how I behave and how I commented on the news. Therefore I think it is necessary to add this quote as it is consistent with the whole keynote of my website.
In my first website reflection I said that I liked this theme because I liked posts with a lot of pictures. However I realized that having all my posts have a featured image somehow makes the whole website a little bit messy. Therefore I tried some other themes like the one with white background and least pictures because I am also very into minimalism. But after trying out some other themes, I switched back to this theme, as I found the featuring images I set are all consistent with the content of my posts and the images help with the headlines for readers get an overall feeling of what this post is about.
I also added another menu “other” for my uncategorized posts like the website reflections, film and media event reflections, and extra news responses.
There is still a problem with my website that I didn’t figure out how to fix. The timezone is China standard time rather than Eastern Standard Time. As a result, sometimes I posted the article before the due date but the time shown at the end of my post is always 12 hours later. I didn’t find the place to change the timezone setting and I’m hoping this is only a problem with my laptop.
