I’ve decided to research how women are portrayed in the media–specifically advertisements. Lately, I’ve noticed how over sexualized women are used to sell products. Half of the time, the ad has absolutely nothing to do with women. For example, I have attached a Burger King advertisement. This ad is for a fast food restaurant chain, yet the company still felt the need to use a woman to create a sexual image. I want to study the effectiveness of these ads, to see if over sexualizing women is really much help for selling a product. I plan to study previous ads, and their sales after airing, to investigate the persistence of misogyny in the media.
